Manawatū River Walkway (Napier Road entrance) to He Ara Kotahi Bridge) - 6.1km - 1.5hr

From the Napier Road entrance, walk down a long fenced pathway beside a storm water drain. At the highest point the path splits into two. Take the right side path and continue to the Riverside Walkway going south. This is an easy walk along the Manawatu River and is popular with residents for walking and cycling. It has numerous access points along the way before reaching the Fitzherbert Bridge. Continue under the bridge for about 1km to the He Ara Kotahi Bridge across the Manawatū River. Nearby is the Palmerston North Camping Grounds and the Lido Swimming Complex.

He Ara Kotahi Bridge to Old West Road - 4km / 1hr

Cross the He Ara Kotahi Bridge and turn right and follow the sealed pathway for roughly 100m. Turn left and follow the pathway between farm land to enter Dairy Farm Road. Follow that road in the Fitzherbert Science Centres till it ends at Tennant Drive. On the right there is an underpass that goes under the highway before entering Bledisloe Park at the carpark adjacent to Turitea Stream before the Massey main entrance. The trail follows the Lower Turitea Walkway, a well formed pathway with three footbridges over the Turitea Stream. A short side trip can be taken into the Massey Arboretum before climbing up the stepped terrace where good views over the picturesque Massey University Campus are seen.

Following further, the trail passes through open parkland and play areas, alongside bush streams and open fenced farmland with views over the Massey Sports Institute. At the steps leading down to Old West Road access to the carpark is reached crossing under the highway at the Turitea Stream bridge.
