Mapping system enters new development stage

The New Zealand Walking Access Commission is inviting organisations with an interest in public access to get involved in the next stage of development of its Walking Access Mapping System.

The system, online at www.wams.org.nz, is New Zealand's official information site about access to the great outdoors. It shows publicly owned land across the country and includes detailed topographical maps, high quality aerial photography and property information.

Commission Chief Executive Mark Neeson said the next phase of the system's development involved the creation of a web application that would allow other organisations to use the system as a platform to display their own information.

“This next phase of development has huge potential to make the Walking Access Mapping System even more powerful and helpful for users. The Commission is now inviting organisations such as clubs, local and central government agencies, landholder groups and other organisations to express their interest in harnessing the system for mutual benefit.â€
