Access fund invites applications for 2013

Applications are invited for the 2013 round of the Enhanced Access Fund. The contestable fund supports projects across New Zealand that will enhance access to the great outdoors.

In 2013, $138,000 (including GST) will be available, with a maximum grant of $25,000 to any one organisation. Funding priorities have also been amended to give greater priority to projects designed to obtain certain and enduring access, such as negotiation costs to secure agreements or surveying for easements or other new access.

Other eligible projects include those intended to provide information about access, such as signs, and facilities that enable access, such as stiles, gates and fences.

Commission Chief Executive Mark Neeson said the change in funding priorities had been necessary to help ensure money allocated through the fund was directed towards the types of projects that would create new opportunities for access to the outdoors.

He said the funding amount had been reduced in 2013 while the Commission seeks financial support from third-parties to ensure the fund is sustainable longer term. No decision had been made about subsequent rounds of the fund.

Organisations that wish to apply for funding in the 2013 round are invited to visit the Enhanced Access Fund page at walkingaccess.govt.nz for eligibility criteria and application forms. Applications close on 16 March 2013.
