My Favourite Beach

My Favourite Beach

Up north at Oneroa Bay
we climb the Pohutukawa tree
that hangs over the rough sand.
Red flowers falling from the tree
onto the sandy beach floor.

The small waves curling
and crashing on the beach.
A salty sea water smell
lingers in the air and on our wet skin.

Take care
around the large rocks
for they will make you tumble
and slip into the sea,
sunlight dancing over
the crystal clear water.

Speed Boats zooming around the harbour
trying to find a good fishing spot for the day.
The hot sand sinks between our toes,
the wind blowing through our hair
as we walk back up to our campsite.
