Wanaka, located a 1 hour 53 min drive from Twizel is a luxurious place to stay for any kind of family. There are a lot of different activities to do from beaches and swimming to going to Puzzle World to get lost in the maze. If you are a shopper there are great shops there for you and only a 1 hour 11 min drive from Queenstown where there are even more shops and thrill seeking adventures.
If you are an adventurous person they have jet boating and a whole lot of mountain climbs for a great family day out with lots of places to stop and have a lovely picnic lunch. There are great photos spots along the way to make an awesome photo album to remember it. On one of the hot beautiful summer days you can go on a lovely family day outing and walk down the beach to see a tree in the middle of the lake and get an awesome photo to remember it by.
If you pick to go in the middle of winter there is still tons to do, you may just want to wrap up warm. There are many ski slopes in the Central Otago area for any ability to have a great day. Cardrona ski field even offers a gondola to get to the top of the mountain for non skiers and on the drive to Cardrona you will see the bra fence with all different colours. If skiing doesn't appeal there is a lovely lavender farm to visit for beautiful photos for the album. It will be an amazing sight if you go in the right season, but be aware of the bees!
Once you have been busy in the morning you will need the perfect place to go and have lunch and there are many different options to choose from. You will definitely find something you want, even if you are a picky kind. At most of the food places you can sit down and eat or you could take it to the beach and look out over the beautiful lake to gaze at the mountains with beautiful snow on them. When lunch is finished you can head down to the lake and rent a paddleboard or kayak to have a fun filled afternoon with lots of laughter for just a small cost. Wanaka, a great place to visit!
