Vacancy: Assistant Accountant
We are seeking applications for an assistant accountant with the New Zealand Walking Access Commission for a fixed term of 18 months.
The New Zealand Walking Access Commission Ara Hīkoi Aotearoa provides leadership on outdoor access issues and administers a national strategy on outdoor access. It maps outdoor access, provides information to the public, oversees a code of responsible conduct, helps to resolve disputes, and negotiates new access. The commission has an office in Wellington and a national network of regional field advisors. It is governed by an independent board.
We have a new role available for an assistant accountant. You will work as part of the corporate services team, largely with the deputy chief executive and the corporate services advisor. There will be some periodic, non-accounting duties in this role. You will be working approximately 15-20 hours per week. The weekly working schedule is flexible and can be discussed. Extra hours may be required during audit and quarterly and annual reporting periods. Remuneration will depend on capability, experience and working arrangements.
Ideally, we are looking for someone with an accounting qualification and who is familiar with preparing standard financial and management accounting reports. Experience using Xero is an advantage, although training can be given to the right applicant if necessary. We are looking for someone with practical and accurate accounting skills, and a strong understanding of general accounting principles.
Other important attributes required are good communication skills, high work ethic, good problem-solving skills, flexibility, and ability to self-manage regular duties and properly prioritise urgent work.
The New Zealand Walking Access Commission Ara Hīkoi Aotearoa is committed to uphold, honour, and give practical effect to te Tiriti o Waitangi. It is desirable that you have some understanding of the Treaty and the Crown’s obligations under the Treaty.
The office is in the Majestic Centre.
Applicants are required to be New Zealand citizens or have existing permanent residency.
