Top outdoor spot competition

Entries are now closed for this year’s Top Outdoor Spot Competition. Students from around New Zealand submitted photos, drawings and descriptions of their favourite outdoor places to be in with a chance to win great prizes.

The competition is sponsored by Skellerup Redband, The Cancer Society and Potton & Burton publishers.

The competition is part of our Both Sides of the Fence education resources, which allow teachers to combine social sciences, English and EOTC with the message of responsible behaviour, considering different viewpoints and valuing the outdoors.

We will announce the winners once our board has had an opportunity to consider the entries.

Thanks to our sponsors there are some exciting prizes for the schools of students that win. The school of each student who wins receives a $300 voucher for a school day trip to a nearby outdoor walk or trail, plus advice from a local Walking Access Commission regional field advisor on planning their trip. They also get a book – Great Walks of New Zealand published by Potton & Burton, and sunscreen from the Cancer Society of New Zealand.

Meanwhile the winning students in each category will receive a daypack filled with a drink bottle, towel, emergency blanket, a pair of Skellerup Red Band gumboots, merino socks, and a book, Up the River – Explore and Discover New Zealand’s Rivers, Lakes and Wetlands, published by Potton & Burton.
