Supporting Women Walk the World

The New Zealand Walking Access Commission is teaming up with Rural Women New Zealand (RWNZ) to support the '90km Challenge' – the local leg of the global 'Women Walk the World' event.

The event is organised in New Zealand by RWNZ to give urban and rural women the opportunity to make a difference within their own communities – no matter what the size.

Groups of Kiwi women will aim to walk a distance of 90kms between them on 29 April as part of an effort that will see likeminded groups around the globe taking part in similar events to build community, raise awareness of healthy lifestyles and raise money for charity.

Commission Chief Executive Mark Neeson said he was pleased that the Commission was able to support Women Walk the World for the third year in a row by sponsoring pedometers and t-shirts for the groups taking part.

“Not only does this challenge promote community and links between urban and rural New Zealand, but it also helps to build awareness of the benefits of walking and being regularly active.

“It's also a great opportunity for us to showcase our free Walking Access Mapping System website to participants, many of whom are interested in exploring the outdoors.â€
