NZWAC reaches five year milestone

The New Zealand Walking Access Commission has this week celebrated the fifth anniversary of its establishment under the Walking Access Act 2008.

Chairman John Forbes said the Walking Access Act 2008 became law on 30 September 2008, with the purpose of providing the New Zealand public with free, certain, enduring and practical walking access to the outdoors, including around the coast and lakes, along rivers and to public resources.

The Act established the Commission with responsibility for leading and supporting the negotiation, establishment, maintenance, and improvement of walking access over public and private land including types of access that may be associated with walking access, such as access with firearms, dogs, bicycles, or motor vehicles.
