Maunganui Bluff Track
UPDATE 19/09/2017: This track is temporarily closed for safety reasons due to a number of recent slips. The Department of Conservation hopes to reopen the track in 2-4 weeks, but please check on this website prior to attempting the track to confirm.
This coastal and forest track offers magnificent views of the Tasman surf on Northland’s west coast, north of Dargaville. The track leads up Maunganui Bluff through rare coastal forest and across farmland, offering spectacular views over the ocean and Ripiro Beach.
The Bluff is set in a 495 hectare scenic reserve and rises 460 metres over the sea below. The track rises steadily and is an easy to moderate walk suitable for families. It links with Kaiiwi Lakes Walk at Aranga Beach.
Sections of this walkway cross private land and visitors are asked to stick to the marked route, respect all signposted conditions of access and follow the New Zealand Outdoor Access Code.
Maunganui Bluff Track can be reached from Aranga Beach Road, 40km north of Dargaville. Alternative access is possible via Waitapu Road and Waikara Beach.
